Ending 2024 with Abundant Roots

 Ill start here by saying I took some time off to help my daughter with her pregnancy and with baby Rosie Marie Wilson, born on April 3rd, 2024. As we were coming home from the hospital, my oldest daughter called me to tell me that my father was killed in an auto/bike accident. No one will ever truly know the impact it had on my life. But everyone will certainly always say they know me and how I deal with things. 

Expanding my business and what 2025 means to me. I want to see if any of the little shops want to resell my items. I would love to get 10 shops in 2025. I am going to start sending out samples and letters in January. 

Moving forward several months later present situation: we are prepped for the hogs addition, and we are gonna be expanding with addition property location. Much needed fencing since every asshats up here is getting address, moving prebuilt sheds and now getting electric ( might as well live in suburbia ) Yuppies they live in trends but instead of dying off they kill everything around them. This is /was my place of serenity and peace with my all my beliefs and faith. I love the natural light at night but after everyone continues to bring up the poles and electric it fades. I bet 80% of the people of the world have not ever stood in complete darkness and look up just look at all the mystery and wonders of the Gods. 

Hoping this next year brings more growth and progress for us as a couple and for our homestead. I am looking to double the business. We have passed around the idea but we are not quite ready for the stage where we bring in guests and hold activities here. We want to offer the off grid experience for a weekend stay here in a tiny house and no amenities. Really try to live with nature and see what its like to start out, have the bare things. There will be more on this stage when it gets closer to manifesting.

This January, we will build again, but on our new site. We will have hogs by end January and breed the rabbits again by then. Our goal will be to not buy any off land meat but beef from the local processer, because it is the safest avenue. We will be adding to the chicken family so that over next winter we have enough eggs to sustain at least us and my baking lol !

Here is the last blog of 2024, but 2025 will have one monthly and I want to share the steps to the stages.

This month I want to discuss Jerusalem Artichokes...

Also known as: Sunchokes, Sunflower Artichoke, Sun root, Wild Sunflower, Topinambur, Earth Apple 

Species of the Sunflower, Jerusalem Artichokes (Helianthus tuberosus).

Tuber perennial type of vegetable used for baking and cooking. But, yet can be eaten raw, has a sweet nutty flavor and crunchy when fresh.

Very easy to grow : I recommend starting in smaller pot until you get a larger area or container such as half barrel or so ready. They are invasive and will spread now it is not horrible because they are edible. 

They yeild 5 bushels (dont ask me I never understood bushels) per 100 food row (again throwing hands up here) but I do know this - one small root as shown below will produce 75-200 tubers. However, you can cut each node off and make it produce itself also. 

Has beautiful flowers that blooms in early mid fall and 4" across and 6 to 9' tall attracts pollinators and blooms are nice site for the garden.

Once they are in full sun, however if its hot sun you want there to be some kind of break in there. I grow mine in the clearing but has some over cast trees. 

Full Sun, well drained soil, then it is 120 to 140 days to maturity (plant them 18 to 24" between plants and 3 to 4' between rows) No pruning No additional care needed watch nature take the lead. 

Each Root can produce 75 to 200 tubers, Sq yard can produce several pounds, and 1 acre 7 to 9 tons.

March Spring SHTF

Well many things bloom near me including the crazies !

We got the UFO Festival and solar /Lunar eclipse coming 😎 

Now the best part is foraging, growing and propagating nature's abundance !

Did you know eastern red buds are not red ? Look it up research it I swear !

What can you do with wild strawberries,  well forage them and make your own strawberry bed! Then eat and preserve them.

Yes yes I did it I cut, and started some persimmons trees !!!!! Now to plant back on the property near the others to pollinate and harvest years to come.

I am here to tell you plant it all anywhere horseradish in rabbit manure and chops 😉  yep no dirt and its the happiest. Growing anything yes it needs to have deep roots so I'm gonna go deeper soon.

Sassifrass is in bloom go go find it my pretties use twigs, flowers and all don't take the roots if it's not an established tree save the foraging future!!!

Life ever changing - Bitter sweet

 Jan 18th of 2024 already how in the world did we get here lol?

As you can see we got a freezing weather and snow but it just freezes in January apparently lol 

Here is our new field in which I have foraged a lot of great things
